Some of the Most Shared videos on YouTube today are music videos celebrating the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hoshanah. In the U.S., this parody of Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO has been particularly popular. We first spotted it when it was trending in Israel earlier this month and it now has over 800,000 views.

AishVideo, which produced this clip, also created the Google Exodus video for Passover that was seen over 2 million times.'

Meanwhile, this music video is actually the second most-viewed of the month in Israel, with 1.2+ million views.

Yeshiva University's Maccabeats, who first made a name for themselves during Hanukkah with their very popular song parody "Candlelight," also created a new a capella mix for the Jewish New Year that was posted a few days ago and is based on One Republic's "Good Life."

It was just last Thursday night that United States' edition of "The X Factor" aired the audition of Chris Rene, and in the few days since, interest on YouTube has been very high in the 28-year-old. Rene, 70 days sober post-rehab, performed a self-written song called, "Young Homie."

"Chris Rene" is the top rising search in the U.S. over the past seven days and, interestingly, searches hit their highest peak on Monday. The video of Rene's performance, which was posted by "The X Factor," has been seen over 2.6 million times and is averaging over a quarter of a million views per day.

Even though the episode is less than a week old, YouTube musicians have already begun posting covers of the song. Here's a selection of five in a playlist:

We live in a brave new world of viral videos. Cute cats, once the sole domain of the U.S. and Japan, have gone global. We see a lot of videos over at The Feed, and we’ve been struck recently by the amount of content coming out of Russia. As with so many other things in the world today, America is losing its competitive edge. We cannot allow a viral video gap!

Seriously though, adorable pets are universal, and it’s great to watch what appears to be a viral renaissance taking place in the Motherland. According to YouTube Trends data, the number of videos on YouTube with the Russian words for 'cat' in the title uploaded in September is already double the number uploaded in September of 2010.

Did you see the incredible Spider Cat? So did 1.1 million other people.

This video is unusual in that the people are actually speaking Russian. (It’s also usual because that cat climbs up a freaking wall, but I digress.) Most of the pet clips we see from the Ruskies hit the viral sweet spot: they’re short, sweet, and (other than the sound of the animal stars) silent. Ignoring the Cyrillic in the titles, you’d never know where these videos came from.

Then again, maybe part of the renaissance is happening on this side of the Atlantic. Maybe those of us in the States are finally taking notice of the Russian phenomenon. This video of a cat having printer problems is similar to another video from 2008 that racked up 2.2 million views.

Whatever the case, it’s always funny seeing cats fall down, I mean, it’s great to see that the things that bind us together (watching cats fall down) outweigh the things that tear us apart. Pretty deep thought for a couple of cute cats, huh?

The images, which are made publicly available via NASA's website, were translated into video by yesterday2221 and that dazzling clip has now been seen over 4.7 million times in the past eight days, drawing as many as 1.7 million views from around the world last Monday.

Nearly 19,000 questions were submitted on YouTube for Thursday's Google and Fox News Republican Primary debate in Florida. More than 100,000 votes were cast to help determine the questions that will be asked of the candidates this evening.

We took those 19,000 questions, which were asked among nine varying categories, and analyzed the words people used when expressing their perspectives and concerns using a tool from Wordle.net. Here's the one for "Government Spending and Debt."

YouTube user AreYouSuprised has been posting videos since April, but his account first drew real attention when he posted a video of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Angie Johnson and "Sidewinder" of the U.S. Air Forces Central Command Band performing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," a cover that was posted on August 8th and has now been seen upwards of 1.5 million times:

AreYouSuprised was described as "anonymous" in the press when the video was being circulated as all of his other videos were vlogs about his self-described experiences being gay in the military. Nearly all the videos are shot from the neck down, and here AreYouSuprised openly discusses his thoughts about hiding his identity.

Today marked the official end of the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, and AreYouSuprised posted a video he recorded calling his father to reveal his sexuality.

The video, which was filmed early this morning Germany-time, became one of today's top Trending Videos and is quickly drawing tens of thousands of views.

Update: The video has drawn over 1 million views in 24 hours and was the most-viewed video in the U.S. last evening into this morning.

Seniors Using Webcam = Viral Hit

One of the most popular trending videos of the week is this clip of two seniors trying to operate a webcam with little success. Its popularity is evidenced by the nearly two million views over the past few days and by this sample of today's top rising searches: "old couple computer," "elderly couple can t figure out computer," "older couple trying to take picture on computer," "old couple trying to skype," "seniors accidental video." It's also the most-shared video of the day.

The video -- which was uploaded in August by a user named Mindy in the United States -- first became popular on pop-culture sites Tuesday afternoon, and drew 1.6 million views on Wednesday.

This is actually not the first clip of its kind to draw a big audience. Back in June, Rita and Frank's similarly accidental clip also drew a following and 1.4 million views.

The iPhone 5 might not be out yet, but that hasn't stopped Apple fans from seeking out supposedly "leaked" videos of the device and videomakers from creating futuristic concept videos. Searches for "iPhone 5" have risen dramatically in the past two weeks and over 5,000 various iphone 5-related videos have been posted in the past month.

One of the most popular of these types of videos was a product imagining produced by AatmaStudio, and with 16.5 million views, it's among the most-viewed videos overall in the past month. Here's a chart tracking its popularity:

As you can see the video is still averaging roughly half of a million views per day.

Back to 'Back to the Future'

One of the more surprising trends of last week was 1980's classic Back to the Future, which has had a series of related videos draw much attention over the past few weeks and saw a big spike in searches last Thursday and Friday.

Two companies, one U.S.-based one Argentina-based, leveraged the film -- which has a popular cult following -- to create successful viral ad campaigns recently. Garbarino, an electronics chain in South America where the film is known as Volver al Futuro, enlisted Christopher Lloyd aka Dr. Emmett Brown for a viral campaign that began with some strange bystander footage of a Delorean in the streets and resulted in this video that's been seen 800,000 times.

The more traditional ad hit the web mid-last week and was also very popular in Argentina.

In the U.S., the buzz was around a big revelation from Nike that an Air Mag sneaker, replicating the ones worn by Marty McFly in the second film, would be released. Word for spread with this vague video that drew over 2.4 million views in the past week.

Eventually, Nike revealed that the shoes would indeed be released, but in limited quantity and via eBay auction. Below you can see the full promo, which features Bill Hader and Kevin Durant and drew 1.5 million views, as well as a chart of weekly search interest in the term "back to the future" recently:

Michael J. Fox also recorded a video urging people to bid on the Mag sneakers. That clip has nearly drawn 1 million views as well.

The 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks was the biggest topic on YouTube this weekend and videos tied to the anniversary remain very popular today. 9/11-related terms were the top rising searches of the weekend and the most-viewed and most-shared videos this morning in the United States were all related clips.

In particular, our top trending video of the anniversary was an spot created by StateFarm, directed by Spike Lee, and featuring 150 school children singing "Empire State of Mind." It's been seen roughly half a million times in the past 24 hours or so:

There were a number of other very popular tribute videos that drew a lot of of attention, including the StoryCorps video we spotted trending on Friday. That video was also seen over 500,000 times over the weekend.

Flash mobs have been a rich part of YouTube's recent history, and it feels as though many in the United States are now being exposed to more and more of these seemingly impromptu dance routines by the day. Are we getting flash mob fatigued in 2011?

There are plenty of people in the U.S. who would argue yes. But it seems as though there are quite a few creative minds and organizers overseas who are playing with the form and delivering varied performances that often defy the commonplace conventions we see here so regularly.

Interest in Dubstep Grows and Grows

If you haven't already heard of dubstep -- the form of electronic dance known for its heavy, heavy use of bass -- you might soon. YouTube data shows that the genre has been picking up broader interest throughout 2011. (It's even been spotted crossing over into the a cappella territory recently.) Here's a quick comparison for illustration:

To be clear, dubstep is not a brand new genre, it's been well-known to electronic/dance aficionados for some time. And numerous mixes and even dubstep tutorials for DJs have existed on YouTube for a few years.

What is new is the major growing appetite for dubstep from the dance-music-loving public, and search data indicates the genre becoming more and more mainstream.

Here's a chart showing weekly, relative search interest in the term "dubstep" dating back to 2009. (The accomanying video first started trending back in May. It's also very loud.)

As you can see, searches have been at their highest in just the past few weeks.

There are over 40,000 "dubstep"-related videos on YouTube -- and nearly 25,000 results for "dubstep remix." This was the year that we began to see the "dubstep remix" become a part of the pop-culture parody arsenal as well. Some musicians are exploring the genre on instruments not usually associated with it.

The UKFDubstep channel is based in the UK and is the most-subscribed music channel in that country. The channel has become a dubstep leader on YouTube, owning 4 of the top 5 most-viewed dubstep-tagged videos.

Video has surfaced on YouTube purportedly from the aftermath from a deadly plane crash in Russia Wednesday in which 43 people were killed. The entire roster of the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv hockey team, which plays in Russia's elite KHL, was reportedly on board.

3 Kinds of One Man Bands: Solo Montage

This is part two (of three) in our series exploring the various types of "one man band" performers who are popular on YouTube. In part one, we looked at "beatbox musicians" who combine vocal abilities with instruments to create the unique sound of a larger group.

NUMBER 2: Multi-instrument musicians who create montaged video performances edited together.

This form of "one man band" can't be recreated live so well, but it does work very well for the YouTube video format. Similar to what many solo artists do in the studio, a musician or singer will create a multi-track recording of not just audio, but also video, that can be edited together for, most commonly, a multi-screen, layered effect, reproducing the sound for which you would normally need a larger band. That take evolved a bit, and we now see these types of "one man band" videos that eschew the multi-screen format for something a little more visually clever:

But what if you didn't even want to deal with mastering a bunch of instruments? One of the most popular trends in a cappella videos over the past two years has been the rise of one-man a cappella, something we've spotted not just in the U.S. but in the Middle East as well.

Popular YouTube artist KurtHugoSchneider showed that one-man a cappella doesn't need to be limited to the multi-screen format either.

Big in New Zealand: Flash Haka

The flash mob fad has certainly been around for a while, but creative flash mob organizers seem to keep churning out enough variations on the form to keep things fresh and draw viewers -- see: the most popular trend of the 2010 holiday season. While the dancing variety has come to dominate the form, there's still enough creativity to surprise viewers now and again.

The most shared and viewed video in New Zealand this week is of yet another iteration of the "flash mob" form we haven't seen before. This time, a group of gentlemen perform a "flash haka," which replaces the usual cheesy dace choreography with the intimidating dance of the Maori, best known internationally as a part of the pre-game ritual for the nation's world-famous rugby team, the All-Blacks.

The video event reportedly took place at Auckland's Sylvia Park shopping center and included 50 young men.

There are also other good angles of the flash performance making the rounds. Here are the two most popular, which are shot from up-close and from overhead.

This could actually be the start to a new flash haka trend as the Rugby World Cup -- which is being hosted by New Zealand, incidentally -- kicks off this Friday and runs for seven weeks.

As summer comes to a close this week -- here in the U.S. at least -- we've spotted several big-trending summer action sport videos popping up among our most popular videos. These three in particular were trending over the past few days and remain among our most-viewed videos today.

On Monday, RedBull released this video of some bold surfers who hooked up flares to their boards to ride the waves. It was seen over 600,000 times this week.

This was one of two surfing videos to draw a lot of attention this week. The other was this Phantom HD footage from billabong of one of the world's most dangerous waves.

Tuesday, Devin Graham of devinsupertramp posted this clip of some totally crazy suped-up slip-n-sliding, which drew nearly 1 million views.

Hurricane, Earthquake Cause Search Spike

Two major natural events affecting much of the United States East Coast occured last week, causing big spikes in searches for on-the-scene and news footage on YouTube. In fact, "Hurricane Irene" was the top rising search on YouTube in the United States over the past seven days.

Below you can see searches for "earthquake" (blue) and "hurricane" (red) over recent weeks:

The last major U.S. spike we saw around the word "hurricane" was back in September of 2008, when Hurricane Ike caused severe damage to the coast of Texas on the Gulf of Mexico.

The east coast earthquake also caused a smaller spike in searches last week, but it was still the third largest we've seen for the word "earthquake" since 2008. The largest spike ever came earlier this year following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Second was the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

Gaddafi's Hat: 'Zenga Zenga' Gets a Sequel

Auto-tuned news footage is nothing new here in the United States, but it's a trend that's recently also spread popular overseas in some interesting countries. Back in February, "Zenga Zenga" became the viral hit of the Middle East and North Africa and its been seen over 4 million times since then.

Tel Aviv DJ/musician Noy Alooshe created the very popular, mocking remix of Muammar Gaddafi's February speech, which spread from his home country of Israel to a number of other countries in the region. (He also produced a popular alternate version, which does not contain the dancing girls and could potentially be more "palatable" in some areas.)

Now that the tide has changed in Libya, Alooshe released something of a sequel to that video, utilizing an interview clip with a reported Libyan rebel that was widely seen in the days that anti-Gaddafi forces made their way into the heart of Tripoli:

Rising Search: Vermont Flood Videos

One of the top spiking search terms on YouTube Sunday night was "vermont flooding irene" as footage began to surface of significant rises in water levels in Vermont in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Other, related video searches that were on the rise included Bennington and Brattleboro, VT, Shelburne falls, MA, and Yonkers, NY.

Spreading Sunday night were dramatic videos of two Vermont covered bridges being destroyed, the Bartonsville Bridge and the Quechee Bridge, respectively embedded below.

Preparing for Irene

As Hurricane Irene makes landfall in the Southern United States, those in the Northeast and elsewhere have begun preparing for the storm. In the past day or so, we've seen a great many videos regarding the storm that have been uploaded to YouTube.

In fact, roughly 4,000 "Irene"-related videos have been uploaded in the past 24 hours. Many of these videos consist of on-the scene footage -- like those we began receiving late this morning from Jacksonville and North Carolina -- aftermath footage, or clips people have posted of the preparations they're making.

We've seen quite a variety -- from the official to the foul-mouthed and funny. Here's a selection of a few we've come across today:

On a lighter note, searches for a number of songs relating to the storm are sharply on the rise, including "Goodnight Irene," "Rock Me Like a Hurricane," and a certain popular song from 1982 though it's not 100% clear if these are searches specifically for parodies or just searches by people who have mistaken the songs lyrics:

In December, we detailed how the computer game Minecraft had become one of the gaming industry's underground hits of 2010. At the time, many of the most popular Minecraft-related videos were clips of some of the incredibly elaborate work being done within its block-building world.

While those types of videos certainly still exist and remain popular, a new Minecraft trend developed in 2011 of people using the game to create music videos parodying some of the biggest pop songs of the year.

Mumbai Monday was host to the festival of Janmashtami, a Hindu celebration which features a unique physical competition called the "Dahi Handi." The practice involves creating giant human pyramids in an attempt to smash a clay pot that is hung very high in the air.

Some of the pyramids can reach nine layers tall, and over 300 injuries were reported by Monday evening. A number of videos shot at the festival are among the most-shared in India today and we've pulled together a few of them into the playlist below.

The top rising search on YouTube this morning is for videos of R&B star Aaliyah Haughton who passed away in a 2001 plane crash at the age of 22. Today marks the 10th anniversary of her passing, which is likely the reason for the search spike.

Portal Fan Videos Spill Over into Real World

The most recent big wave of Portal fever may be in the past, but this week, fan-made videos based on the popular video game have been spreading quickly, and many fantasize bringing the game into the real world.

"Portal" searches hit their highest peak back in April, when Portal 2 hit the street, but two new portal clips from its fans are drawing big audiences these past two days. This cinematic, real-life recreation of the game and its lead character has quickly become one of YouTube's most-shared and most-viewed videos, drawing around a million views in just the past day.

This is not the first real-life interpretation of the game, however. In addition to this, some of YouTube's special effects aficionados -- FreddieW and FinalCutKing -- have created popular comedy videos exploring the logistics of owning an actual portal gun:

This week though, a second popular Portal video started to take off as recently as yesterday and may be part of video game proposal trend that seems to be developing:

The East Coast Earthquake on YouTube

We're seeing a big spike in searches this afternoon related to the earthquake that struck the east coast. Most of the searches are tied to the regions that felt the tremors including, D.C., Virginia, and New York. Carole King's "I Feel the Earth Move" is near the top of rising searches as well and is currently the fast rising music search.

As of 6pmET, nearly 2,300 videos tagged with "earthquake" have been uploaded past the previous 24 hours, though it's unclear how many are directly tied to this event. Many of these are reaction videos from people who wanted to share their experience and thoughts immediately following the quake:

We're also seeing a bunch of videos posted from people who happened to have their cameras running for one reason or another when the earthquake hit. Here's a playlist of a few:

Some feel a little less genuine than others. In fact, there are quite a few videos that are being posted poking fun at the "hysteria" around the relatively minor, though very unexpected earthquake.

Advertising is a multimillion dollar business run by the talented men and women who come up with creative ways each day to get us to buy their products. The newest ad that has hit our radar is the “TRON”-themed video for Duck Tape, featuring the one and only TRON guy.

There've been a lot of memorable ads -- for all kinds of reasons -- that have made it to YouTube. Here are some of our favorites.

Does your man smell like this man? Is he on a horse? This Old Spice ad starring Isaiah Mustafa has become legend.

This ad made the rounds for being one of the most misogynistic ads ever created. The advertisers might as well have just made the woman say, “Signs confusing. Can’t drive. Must go back to kitchen.”

For those of you entranced by Rube Goldberg machines, here’s another one for you. And, for all you people out there who doubt it, it’s not CGI.

A commercial this racy would never make it on American airwaves…. hence why it’s French.

Ken Block Accelerates Quickly (Again)

Stunt Driver Ken Block's Gymkhana Four is off to a fast start in its first week. With 5.7 million views, it's the second most-viewed video of the past week, behind only Lady Gaga's new video for "Yoü & I," which has been seen 9.5 million times.

As the title implies, this is the fourth in a series for Block and DC shoes. Last September's Gymkhana Three was seen 23 million times by the year's end and was one of 2011's ten most-viewed videos. That clip drew 7.4 million views the first week it was posted, so Gymkhana Four is not far off pace. Gymkhana Two, which has 28 million views at present, drew 2 million views its first week.

Here's a chart that shows the big peak in views Block's new video hit on Wednesday:

Much like its predecessors, Gymkhana Four also has a big international following with heavy popularity in Europe and other parts of the world. The clip is down from its peak, but still averages hundreds of thousands of views per day.
